“I do not say that there is a frequent use of tyranny in America at the present day; but I maintain that there is no sure barrier against it…”                                                             Alexis de Tocqueville

Donald Trump is a dangerous, narcissistic bully. To our hazard, he is using his bullying tactics with other world leaders. However, they will probably not work those hostile world leaders who have no reason to submit to his tantrums and threats and seem to have no hesitation to threaten back. Bullying on the playground may lead to fistfights and suspension. Bullying on the world stage leads to war.

As a candidate he showed disrespect and disregard for the judicial system and still does not seem to understand how the constitutional separation of powers works to benefit our freedom. He may throw a bone regarding abortion to pacify some evangelicals who have and will continue to excuse his more grievous habits and ignore our slide to autocracy.

The United States is not one of his failed companies or his serial marriages that he may rule as a cantankerous, ill-humored, despot. Hopefully, this time of testing will demonstrate that our nation is neither bankrupt of ideals or purpose or will.
